Fragrance Glossary
There are many different fragrance types when you are choosing man's fragrance. The most common types are Perfume, Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette, Eau de Cologne and aftershave. The differences of these fragrance types are mainly based on the amount of concentration perfume essence in the fragrance.
Perfume (or Parfum)
Perfume is the strongest fragrance available and contains the highest concentration perfume essence among all the fragrance types. This means that you need very little to use and the fragrance lasts long.
Eau De Parfum
Eau De Parfum (EDP) is lighter than Perfume (Parfum). It lasts long as well due to its high essence concentration but lasts slightly shorter than Perfume (parfum).
Eau De Toilette
This is the most common fragrance type people choose and often the strongest fragrance type for men. It has approximately 4-8% concentration of perfume essence. It is very suitable for daily use because of its light delicate fragrance characteristic.
Eau De Cologne
Eau de Cologne is often called Cologne and it's the lightest fragrance among all types due to its light concentration perfume essence (3-5%).
Aftershave
Many fragrance provide aftershave lotion or aftershave balm type. Aftershave is much less strong than Eau de Toilette and kinder to skin. It is the most popular choice among men's fragrance types because it combines light fragrance and skincare functions.
Aftershave lotion will usually sting when you apply it after shaving, but it helps close the pores. If you have very sensitive skin, aftershave balm or aftershave gel is more recommended. Aftershave balm is soothing to the skin and ideal for very sensitive skin. Aftershave Gel is also soothing to the skin and has cooling effect as well as relives razor burn result.
